Glazed Gingerbread Star

Preheat the oven to 150 °C fan (or 175 °C conventional).

Finely grate the milk and dark chocolate.

Beat the soft butter and brown sugar until creamy, then add the egg(s) one at a time.

Mix flour, baking powder, ground almonds, ground hazelnuts, 1 tsp each of gingerbread spice, cinnamon and clove powder, and fold them together with the chocolate shavings into the butter mixture.

Pour the batter into a greased star pan (approx. 1 L capacity) and smooth the surface.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes.

Let the cake cool on a wire rack and then turn it out of the pan.

Whisk the powdered sugar with lemon juice and stir in 1/2 tsp each of gingerbread spice, cinnamon and clove powder.

Pour the glaze over the cooled gingerbread star and finish by dusting with powdered sugar.
