Pear Hedgehogs

The drier the pear, the better the chocolate will adhere.

For a stable base, trim a very thin slice off the bottom so the hedgehogs don't tip over.

Gently warm the chocolate so it stays glossy and doesn't seize.

Work fairly quickly so the chocolate doesn't set too fast.

Insert the almond slivers slightly angled backward to make the hedgehog look more lifelike.

Chill briefly to set — the Smarties will adhere best when cooled.
